BlackBerry Storm Hits Business World
Research In Motion’s latest assault against the Apple iPhone has been unleashed, and by all accounts the new BlackBerry Storm is worth a closer look.
Here are some of the biggest BlackBerry Storm features that are getting the most buzz:
1) RIM’s first touch screen interface – not only is this RIM’s first touch screen, but they also incorporated a resistive quality to the screen to simulate button and keyboard pressure.
2) 3.2 megapixel camera with video – the 3.2 MP camera is a step up in quality from the iPhone’s meager 2 megapixel camera, but the big bonus for the Storm is its ability to take video which is something the iPhone has been sorely lacking.
3) Copy and paste – you would think this wouldn’t be such a big deal, but Apple’s inability to get the buttonless iPhone to do ‘copy and paste’ has opened the door for the Storm to beat them to it.
4) Removable battery – it’s hard to imagine Apple fumbled this one so badly, but for business travelers who go on long flights etc. the ability to carry multiple batteries is a big boon for the Storm.

PC World – BlackBerry’s Storm: Awkward and Disappointing: “The decision by Research in Motion to differentiate the Storm by giving its capacitive touch screen a mechanical component (the entire screen functions as a button for confirming selections or initiating actions) turns out to be more confusing than helpful. Ultimately, the Storm’s touch interface feels like a failed experiment. — It’s too bad, because the Storm has some nice features and makes a great first impression.”
The Boy Genius Report – Verizon BlackBerry Storm review: “The good thing is that this is, afterall, a BlackBerry, and once you get past accepting that there will be some hiccups, it’s really not all that bad. It’s a great phone, a very good device for email, a really good media player, and a decent web browsing machine. You’ll just have to decide what your priorities are in a mobile device and see if the Storms meets that.”
As per the norm with big product launches like this one, there is clearly a broad spectrum of opinion. Will this latest RIM offering be enough to dethrone the surging iPhone? Probably not. But early buzz would seem to indicate that the Storm is a big step in the right direction for RIM / BlackBerry.
